What is your opinion on using SharePoint 2007 as the file storage location for project docs. and other files

This would be intended for both internal and external collaboration and file storage.

Sites would be set up on a project basis (ours are engineering projects) and would contain internal and external webparts and/or child sites.

Organice by Cadac group would be used to provide integration between SharePoint and applications such as MS Office 2003 and Autodesk products.

Pros and Cons?

Any experiences or insights are appreciated.
